THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS

For over 30 years, The Fabulous Thunderbirds have been the quintessential American Blues band. The group's distinctive and powerful sound manifested itself into a unique musical hybrid via such barnburners as 'Tuff Enuff' and 'Wrap It Up'. Co-founder Kim Wilson, the sole original member, still spearheads the group.
Muddy Waters called Kim Wilson his favorite harmonica player and vocalist. "Muddy Waters was very good to me," Wilson says. "He almost adopted me. I'll never forget him."
Kim Wilson was influenced by Little Walter, George "Harmonica" Smith, Lazy Lester and James Cotton, Bobby "Blue" Bland, B.B. King, Otis Rush, Jimmy Rodgers, and Muddy Waters. Jimmie Vaughan & Kim Wilson founded the Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1974.
In 1979, The Fabulous Thunderbirds released their first self-titled album. Primarily blues influenced, it became a cult classic. In subsequent releases, the band started to incorporate more Cajun, rock 'n roll and soul influences. The album 'T-Bird Rhythm' was produced by Nick Lowe. In 1986, The Fabulous Thunderbirds reached a commercial peak with the album, 'Tuff Enuff'. The single of the same title as well as the singles 'Wrap It Up' and 'Look At That', all went top 40.

Metronome stands as a significant cultural asset within Nottingham's Creative Quarter, a purpose-built venue that has swiftly established itself as a vital hub for live performance. Since its opening in 2018, it has become an integral part of the city's artistic landscape, closely aligned with the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies and Nottingham Trent University, offering invaluable industry experience to emerging talent.

The interior presents a modern, adaptable space, anchored by a 400-capacity main auditorium. Here, a state-of-the-art sound system delivers an immersive audio experience, while a vast 10-metre-wide projector screen and a separate video wall provide a dynamic visual backdrop, enhancing every performance. The air often carries the faint, clean scent of a well-maintained contemporary space, a testament to the venue's meticulous upkeep.

Practical considerations are well-addressed, with the venue offering comprehensive wheelchair accessibility, including level access, ramps, and dedicated viewing areas in the gallery for standing events, alongside reserved front rows for seated shows. A stylish bar and atrium provide ample space for pre-show drinks, with a well-curated menu and the convenience of an online ordering system to bypass queues.

Throughout the year, Metronome curates a diverse programme that extends beyond conventional music gigs. It regularly hosts comedy nights, spoken word events, film screenings, and even esports tournaments, attracting a broad audience from across Nottinghamshire and the wider East Midlands. The schedule ranges from intimate seated concerts to high-energy standing performances, reflecting its commitment to a wide spectrum of creative expression.
